Relieving OCD Symptoms Through Video EMDR
Logbook – EMDR PEPS practice
When your mind just won't give up… despite your best efforts
With obsessive-compulsive disorder, I often picture a system that gets stuck on the same piece of information, without ever being able to fully validate it.
The thought comes. It lingers. It returns. And the mind tries to respond. To verify. To control. To reassure. But nothing lasts.
Via EMDR teleconsultations, patients don’t just talk about thoughts. They talk about an internal pressure, a need to act in order to let something subside.
It's as if the mind were trying to solve a problem… that can't be solved.
In my EMDR PEPS practice, OCD is never viewed as excessive thinking. It is understood as a system that attempts to regulate internal tension through repetitive loops.
It is this interpretation that allows us to work with precision, even during video calls.
Understanding Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
A system that never validates the information
OCD is based on a simple mechanism. An intrusive thought arises. It creates tension. The mind tries to reduce that tension—through an action, through a check, or through a ritual.
In the clinic, we always see the same pattern: the answer is never enough. The thought returns. The symptoms then become indicators:
- Repetitive Thoughts
- Need to check
- Mental or behavioral rituals
- Persistent Doubt
Clinical experience shows that the problem is not the thought itself. It is the system’s inability to classify it as “resolved.”
Let’s start by having a conversation.
The Role of EMDR in the Treatment of OCD
Address the source of the loop
EMDR does not seek to suppress thoughts. It addresses what fuels them.
In OCD, obsessions are often linked to unresolved internal tension. The work involves:
- Identify the moments when the loop is activated
- Identify related situations
- Access the relevant reports
- Enable control
This work addresses the root cause. We don't fight against thought. We reduce the system's need to produce it.
EMDR via video call: a tailored approach
Working at the Heart of Triggers
In OCD, thoughts and rituals arise in everyday situations. Video conferencing allows us to work directly within this context. The patient is in:
- His usual spot
- His real-life situations
- Its specific triggers
This framework allows you to:
- To observe moments of activation
- To take action as close to reality as possible
- To adjust the work in real time
Video conferencing makes it easier to address problematic situations.

How to Prepare for Therapy
Understanding Without Straining Yourself
In OCD, the desire for more control often makes the situation worse. The system is already overcontrolled. The first session helps to:
- Identify the main loops
- Identify the moments of activation
- Understanding the Big Picture
The work isn't about stopping the rituals right away. It's about understanding what keeps them going.
Conclusion
When the mind no longer needs to verify
OCD is not a matter of willpower. It is a system that tries to regulate itself using ineffective tools.
Video-based EMDR allows us to work directly on the neural pathways involved, taking the client’s actual experiences into account.
When internal tension decreases, thoughts lose their intensity. And behaviors become less necessary.
Would you like to talk about intrusive thoughts or persistent rituals? An initial consultation will help us determine whether this type of support is right for you.
